Installation options
Internal – The security shutters can be installed into window reveals or floor-to-ceiling. The frames and tracks can be face or top-fixed to allow for outside recess or inside recess fitting. The minimum reveal depth is 90mm to allow for the louvres to tilt and the door panels to bifold.
External – As Rhino shutters are made of aluminium and stainless steel, they are suitable for external applications without fear of rusting. External installation provides first-stage security and superior temperature control. They can be installed to windows, entrance, patio and bifold doors.
Shutter weight – Rhino Shutters weigh 14kg per metre sq. compared to 10 kg/ metre sq. for MDF wood shutters.
Louvres – The louvres are available in 89mm only. They can be tilted even when the door panels are securely locked for variable shading and privacy. When closed the louvres are water-resistant from the tilt-rod side.
Louvre screws allow the louvres to be tensioned to a desired rigidity for manual tilting. A patented system holds the louvres in place even if they are damaged or vandalised.
Tilt rods – Hidden tilt rods only are available. The tilt rods can be split allowing a section of the louvres to be open whilst another section remains closed. Mid-rails are not required due to the inherent strength of the aluminium and steel construction. The minimum split is eight louvres from the bottom of the panel, within a 50mm range of the given height measured from bottom of panel.
Colours – The aluminium is powder-coated in white (similar to silk white) or brown as standard, RAL colour powder- coating available. The louvre ends are in matching colours.
Frames –There are two styles available. A bifold top and bottom track system, or cottage-style four- sided or three-sided frame.
Bifold – The shutter panels are suspended from a top track hinged together in a bi-fold configuration to allow them to be folded back to either end of the tracks at 90o. The bottom track can be recessed into the floor or window sill, or installed on the top of the base. Side covers can be added.
They are suitable for use with windows or patio doors.
The track cannot be lifted out due to a patented runner.
The top track comes in three formats:
- With lip
- Without lip
- Face fix. The bottom track is available in two formats: – Recessed – Raised Cottage style. Three or four-sided frame which allows the door panels to fold back against the wall. Pivot – left, right, floating
Configurations available: L, R, LL, RR, LR, LLR, LRR, LLRR, LLLRR, LLRRR, LLLRRR RailsBy default the factory determines the rail size for each order (and therefore the number of louvres), unless specified otherwise in the notes on the order form. Different rail sizes can be requested though the combination of a fixed overall panel drop and louvre size means that it may not always be technically possible to fulfil every custom rail request.
Stile – Butt stiles only
Hinges – The hinges cannot be knocked out or removed even if the ends are ground off due to roll-pin design. Hinge colour to match (white, brown or powder coated to RAL colour)
Hinges are provided depending on the configuration. They are pre-mounted on panels and frames by two screws in the slotted holes. The screw for the third rest hole should be installed at installation. The hinge pins are not removable.
For external applications, reverse hinges can be specified. The tilt rods should be facing outwards only so to bifold the shutters externally use reverse hinges.
Pivot – The panel that pivots does not need locks in it if it is connected in a bifold pattern to another panel.
Lock – To lock – remove the key and retain safely, rotate the daisy wheel to raise the lock bolts to their maximum then turn the lock catch to the horizontal position. The lock bolts cannot now be lowered.
To unlock – insert key and rotate, the lock catch will release to the vertical position and the daisy wheel can be turned to lower the lock bolts.
N.B. The daisy wheel is purposely made of plastic as this is inherently weaker than the steel lock. Therefore any vandalism will only be able to damage and remove the daisy wheel which is easily replaced.
The lock bolts have an extra-long throw compared to a normal door lock and are made of steel.
It is a CISA lock system with a C2000 Euro Profile Cylinder. This conforms to European Norm EN1303:2005.

Each set of keys is unique to each order, but standardised across the order for each lock (keyed alike). The five-pin biting system produces over 30,000 key differs.
Keys can be matched to previous orders if lost at a cost of £5 per key.
Warranty
Rhino Shutters are distributed in the UK by Shut Safe Limited.
All our products carry a 3-year warranty against faulty manufacture from the date of invoice.
Shut Safe warrant that our shutters will be free from defects in materials or workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the shutters provided that such products were properly installed; and such products were made or assembled exclusively from original materials and components. Any resale or other transfer of the product and/or materials voids this warranty.
It is a condition of this guarantee that the products found to be faulty have not been misused or wilfully damaged and shall not have been worked on or tampered with by any person not authorised by the company to do so. Accidental damage or acts of nature are not covered by this guarantee. It is also a condition that the care and maintenance advice for the product has been adhered to. Improper, inappropriate, or unauthorized replacement parts, repairs or maintenance voids this warranty. This warranty excludes all liability for removal of the shutter and reinstallation in the same or another window, or damage to the window frame, glass or any other portion of the window.
Repair or remakes of defective products is the sole remedy under this warranty and in no event shall Shut Safe be liable for costs to remove and/or reinstall the product. Repairs will be made only with like or similar parts. This warranty does not include shipping charges or the cost of labour involved for measuring and installation.
All other warranties, both express and implied, are expressly disclaimed. This warranty excludes all liability for consequential or incidental damages for any cause whatsoever. All warranties offered herein are non-transferable and only apply where the goods have been paid for in full. Proof of purchase will be required.
